Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town, the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace. It is to this backdrop that Lilly Martin returns to close the sale of her mountain cabin, marking the end of her turbulent eight-year marriage to Dutch Burton, Cleary's chief of police. Dutch's reluctance to let her go isn't Lilly's only obstacle. As she's trying to outrun a snowstorm, her car skids on the icy road and strikes a man. She recognizes the injured man as Ben Tierney, whom she'd met the previous summer. They're forced to wait out the storm in the cabin, but as the hours of their confinement mount, Lilly begins to wonder if the greatest danger to her safety isn't the blizzard outside, but the mysterious man right beside her. Is Ben Tierney the feared abductor? Or is he who he claims to be...her rescuer from harm and from the tragedy that haunts her? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Stephen Lang. De Niro and company decide to get involved, sending Salazar back to Venezuela to investigate with a fire team from ARCHANGEL as backup. There is also more strange activity at the border. Soldiers of Tuco Ramirez's Pacifico Drug Cartel have been infiltrating en masse onto the Tohono O'odham reservation. This time, Bryan Ahiga head of the legendary DHS/ICE Shadow Wolves doesn't have his border patrol unit to patrol the tribal lands, so he asks De Niro if his team could lend a hand. The world as we know it is standing on the cusp of change: a transition of the utmost importance. Things will never be the way they were. In Book I, you will come to realize that we are a very creative, very powerful race of beings. We all have our journeys and our lessons to learn, but we are not helpless or hopeless. With the current economic downturn, Earth changes, terrorist activity and war, fear and a sense of hopelessness has gripped the hearts of mankind. It is time for the human race to stop the madness by making the choice to step out of the place of fear and into the place of love and empowerment. We have the ability to create the life we desire and to heal our precious home with ease, but we need the know-how along with the commitment. You will find the know-how written within these pages. The rest is up to you; EMBRACING THE SHADOW SIDE. What is the 'Shadow Side'? What images come to mind when you hear this term? Do you associate it with words like 'dark' or 'evil'? Does it evoke fearful emotions of both seen (known) and unseen (unknown) horrors, either real or imagined? The shadow side refers to anything that requires more light, more knowledge. It can refer to places, people, situations, desires, or personal talents. It refers to anything that makes us feel uncomfortable, inadequate, or fearful: things that we refuse to look at and that we hide away by placing in a self-constructed mental or emotional prison. When we create these prisons, we also place ourselves within these prison walls. This prevents us from living our lives to our fullest potential. Come to know the shadow side for what it is and learn how to bring down the prison walls to finally gain your freedom; HONORING THE TEMPLE OF SACRED SELF. Gain important, life-transforming knowledge to heal the all-of-you, so that you can return to wholeness and find the gateway to what is real and true. Experience deeper happiness through self-awareness and the determination to take action. Allow your self-awareness to bring you the gift of inner strength, passion, and purpose. This collection is healing in nature, progressive in outlook, and extremely transformational. It has appeared at a time when we need it the most. Reclaim your power by taking that first step into your personal love story. Be reintroduced to the 'real you' and learn to love yourself completely. Then walk into the life of your dreams. Welcome.
The author was embedded with one of the busiest wildfire crews in the United States Reveals wildfires through the experiences of the people who go face-to-face with them Focuses on challenges faced in Western states. Every year wildfires ravage forests, destroy communities, and devastate human lives, with only the bravery of dedicated firefighters creating a barrier against even greater destruction. Throughout the 2016 wildfire season, journalist Heather Hansen witnessed firsthand the heroics of the Station 8 crew in Boulder, Colorado. She tells that story here, layered with the added context of the history, science, landscape, and human behavior that, year-by-year, increases the severity, frequency, and costs of conflagrations in the West. She examines the changes in both mindset and activity around wildfires and tracks the movement from wildfire as something useful, to something feared, to something necessary but roundly dreaded. Wildfire shares the drama, hardships, and experiences of the firefighters who try, sometimes in vain, to prevent destruction when a spark flares out of control. Hansen tells the rich and frightening stories of the firefighters themselves and the challenges they face: a safety system struggling to keep up with fire seasons that are lengthening, fires that are becoming more extreme, and agencies that are struggling to cover the bills.
Most of us in Western Christianity have built up strong emotional tensions regarding faith and the way we relate with the God of the Bible. We must ask ourselves, how did we get into this mess? How did certain Greek ideas become so pervasive that they became each of our starting definition of the word God? How do we move past these misconceptions of the Divine so we can see God as he is? That is the purpose of this book. We may have been swept off our feet by him in love, but over time and after much Bible teaching and exposure to certain mindsets, we ended up believing that this God should be feared. Or that He's unknowable and unpredictable. And that He saved us, not because we're lovable, but because we're damnable.
Atheists believe that any being who is powerful enough to stop evil and good enough to want to, yet doesn't, must be questioned. What if they're right? What if that god doesn't exist? And the infinitely more interesting question is: What is the real God actually like? Is there another way of interpreting the pre-deterministic, all-controlling portrayals of God that our religious heritage may have handed us? Is there another way of interpreting the Bible itself that's even more biblical? I believe there is. What does catharsis mean? Great question. You may have heard someone describe an activity or an experience as 'cathartic.' People use the word to mean something was deeply relaxing. The technical definition of catharsis means 'release of tension.' A strong feeling of emotional release is the goal of most novelists and screenwriters. Stories take us through tension, betrayal, confusion, suspense, misunderstanding, and delay. But when catharsis happens, and tensions resolve, the viewer, listener, or reader has a real experience of satisfaction. Like a good cry after an episode of This is Us or Call the Midwife, we come away feeling good.
Experiencing Goodness, the way stories help us do, has a profound effect on us emotionally. And, so it is with God and the incredible story we are all a part of. We have lived with tensions in our understanding of God for too long. Catharsis is long overdue. The Bible is full of mysteries, as is every healthy relationship, but we must reject tensions that are actually contradictions—especially tensions that distort or malign the character of God. But, as we will discover in this book, despite all of the confusion religious tensions have perpetrated, goodness shall prevail. Catharsis is coming!
This book has one goal—to release the tensions religion has sown into the way we read the Bible and relate with God. Along the way, we will visit topics like Predestination, Determinism, God's Goodness and his Relatability. We will identify the source texts from the Bible and re-narrate them with deeper, contextual understanding. We will visit certain attributes of God as seen in Jesus, and then end by talking about story—because only story unlocks catharsis.

More than 120 years after the White Caps terrorized Sevier County in East Tennessee, longtime residents still won't talk about the lawless band of vigilantes. But veteran journalist Robert Wilson shines a spotlight on the group with this detailed history. Relying on a primary source--The White Caps: A History of the Organization in Sevier County, distributed in 1899 by the publisher of the City Directory of Knoxville--as well as his own research, he presents the most complete account to date of why the White Caps were so feared. Wilson has retrieved details from multiple sources and uncovered shocking details about the dark, faceless members who would disguise themselves with a full-body covering of white fabric with holes cut for the eyes. Though the description may summon images of the Ku Klux Klan, the White Caps focused their wrath on what they perceived as immoral behavior--although some of their activity targeted blacks and Jews, among others. However, what started out as a fairly mild enforcement of Victorian values in an isolated, God-fearing community became much, much more. Find out how far the group went in The Eyes of Midnight.
The history of mankind has been shaped by infections, more than by war and famine together. At the same time, however, the development of society has had an equally important effect on human diseases. The emergence of agriculture, urban societies and high population densities has been proven to be crucial for the spread of pathogens, and thus human action is currently the single most important driver of infectious epidemiology. Even today, where once major killers such as poliomyelitis have been eradicated, new pathogens are appearing as result of human activity. One such group of pathogens are the fungi, whose emergence is mainly due to modern medical practices. Fungal microorganisms, from yeasts colonizing the skin or mucosa, to molds from soil or water, are usually harmless in the context of normal host responses. However, the success of chemotherapy, as well as the AIDS pandemia, has led to immune deficiencies in a significant segment of the patient population, and the extensive use of intravenous catheters has provided a way of access for microorganisms which otherwise would find difficult to infect the host. As a result, a yeast such as Candida is now on the 4th place on the list of the most frequent sepsis agents, whereas infection with the mold Aspergillus is increasing in incidence and it is one of the most feared complications in patients with hematological malignancies.
